In fact, visitors will be given a chance to meet many of their favorite pop culture icons. The original Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, WWE Superstar, Sting and Malcolm in the Middle star, Frankie Muniz will be giving photo ops and signing autographs! Oh — remember the Green Ranger from the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers? Yeah, he’ll be there too. Let’s just hope (fingers crossed) he’s not whisked away to quell some sort of planetary destruction.

Take a look at the show hours listed below and pick a date! Or heck — if you’re that dedicated, attend all four days!

bike lane data map
In December 2013, the Philadelphia Parking Authority initiated #UnblockBikeLanes — a Twitter hashtag campaign to accomplish the following:

  • Give citizens the opportunity to report blocked bike lanes via Twitter.
  • Compile relevant data highlighting the most problematic areas with blocked bike lanes in the city.
  • Engage active voices within the Philadelphia community, in particular, The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.

Since its launch more than a year ago, there have been over 270 reports of blocked bike lanes via #UnblockBikeLanes. On a daily basis, citizens have responded to our campaign and reported blocked bike lanes.

We’d like to thank the public for providing us with invaluable data and feedback on this vitally important issue and continuing the conversation of bicycle safety in Philadelphia.

One question that been frequently asked is, “What’s being done with #UnblockBikeLanes?”and today we aim to answer that question by sharing the data that we’ve been gathering since December 2013.

Here’s an interactive map which highlights bike lane ticket issuance and #UnblockBlockBikeLanes reports from December 18th, 2013 to December 18th, 2014. This information allows us to zero in on problem areas for proper enforcement. Check out the map, and feel free to reach out to us with any questions or comments.

With the release of this data, it’s our hope that local residents and visitors to our great city will continue utilizing #UnblockBikeLanes and let us know of any bike lane violations.

Again, thank you for utilizing #UnblockBikeLanes. We look forward to continuing the conversation and remember: if you see a blocked bike lane, tweet us a photo along with the location, time and day with the hashtag #UnblockBikeLanes. You may also call our hotline to report blocked bike lanes at 215-683-9627.

Mother’s Day in Philly: What to do and Where to Park

When you think of Philadelphia’s history, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Being the first capital of the United States? Betsy Ross knitting the first American flag on Arch Street? Or how about the signing of the Declaration of Independence?

You get the point — Philadelphia’s history is filled with many firsts for the United States. The list goes on and on, but one piece of Philadelphia’s history tends to go unnoticed: Mother’s Day.

In 1908, a Philadelphian named Anna Marie Jarvis held the first ceremony to honor not only her mother, but all mothers around the world. Following this first ceremony, Jarvis tirelessly lead efforts to recognize Mother’s Day as an official holiday. After six years, Jarvis’s efforts paid off when President Woodrow Wilson  declared Mother’s Day an official holiday in 1914.

Now, here we are in present-day Philadelphia for the 101st Mother’s Day. Aside from continuing to be any history buff’s dream, it’s also the perfect setting for treating the mother in your life to brunch, dinner or day out in the city. In fact, Visit Philadelphia offers some great ideas for your day out with mom. Check them out here.

Whether you’re wining and dining in Center City, or just taking a midday stroll through Old City, we can help you and your mom find convenient parking. After deciding how to spend your Mother’s Day, check which one of our garages best suites you, or feel free to use our parking locator!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Grab Your Helmets: It’s National Bike Month!

Bike Month
Spring’s arrival brings many changes that make it a little easier to get out of bed in the morning and a little harder to focus on work or school. Warmer weather and cloudless skies become more frequent. Barbeque grills are dusted off for Sunday cook-outs. And if you’re an avid cyclist in Philly, it’s the perfect time to strap on your helmet and breeze down the scenic Boathouse Row.

You get the point — as we delve deeper into spring and soon enough, summer, there’s going to be more cyclists on the road — especially considering May is National Bike Month!

With more than half of the U.S. population living within five miles of their workplace, National Bike Month highlights cycling as a healthier and more sustainable mode of commuting, compared to driving a vehicle. In fact, according to the U.S. Census Bureau , the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. jumped by more than 62 percent from 2000 to 2013. If you have a bike collecting dust, brush it off, grab your helmet and check out the events listed below!

So if you’re on your morning commute, or just walking the streets, don’t be surprised at the increase of cyclists on the road. In fact, if you want to jump on the bandwagon, browse the many bike shops scattered throughout Philly or try the new bike share program!

#TBT: North Philly Neighborhood Lot

#TBT South Philly Nieghborhood Lot
For this month’s #TBT, we’re heading back to the early 1990s as the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) broke ground on its neighborhood parking lot at 7100 Ogontz Avenue in North Philadelphia. This throwback picture shows the attendees of the groundbreaking ceremony, from left to right: State Representative, Dwight Evans; PPA Chairman, Herman Wooden; State Senator, Alison Schwartz; and  former Mayor of Philadelphia, Wilson Goode.

After construction was complete, the lot served the business district for close to five years before being redeveloped. Nowadays you won’t find a parking lot if you drive by 7100 Ogontz Avenue. Instead, you can gas up and grab some Tastykakes at M & J Market before hitting the road.

Now let’s fast forward 20 plus years: Parking lots may come and go, but we still offer convenient parking throughout all parts of Philly. In fact, many of our facilities offer discounts such as Early Bird Specials and validations for many tourist attractions!

So the next time you need a parking spot in Philly, check out what our garages and autoparks have to offer. If you have any questions, we’ll get you answers on Twitter and Facebook.

Pango Mobile Parking App Coming to Philadelphia

Pango

As part of its ongoing effort to improve customer service, the Philadelphia Parking Authority Board today approved entering into a contract with Pango USA, LLC (Pango) to provide a mobile parking payment option for Philadelphia motorists. Pango was selected from five vendors who submitted proposals for this service based on the quality of the product, the low transaction fee and the option to share in advertising revenue generated from the service.

PPA Executive Director Vince Fenerty, said “The proposal from Pango provided the best consumer price, one cent per transaction, to encourage the highest level of participation. We believe the low cost and convenience of this app will greatly improve the convenience of paying for on-street parking in Philadelphia.”

Customers will be able to establish an account through the app to pay for on-street parking in the core of Center City initially (4th to 20th Streets, Arch to Locust Streets as well as Columbus Blvd.. from Spring Garden to Race Streets) as well as the Torresdale Rail Station lot and the 8th & Chestnut Streets lot. After a six month trial period, it is expected to expand to the entire city.

In addition to providing an additional payment option, the app can send reminders to motorists that their paid time is about to expire and permit adding time under conditions being established by City Council. While the option to add time will help avoid getting parking tickets, The Authority has proposed that the parking rate increase with each increment of time beyond the posted time limit to encourage parking turnover, increasing parking opportunities for customers.

Under the proposed agreement, Pango will cover the cost of credit/debit card processing fees, wireless data plans for parking enforcement devices, all signs and decals with instructions on the use of the app as well as marketing to local businesses. This will reduce the cost to the Authority to insure that payments to the City and School District from the On-Street Parking program are not jeopardized.

Neil Edwards, President of Pango, said “we look forward to partnering with the PPA to provide this new service to the people of Philadelphia. Together we will implement a program that the public will love and will support the growth of the local economy.”

“The most important element of our mission is to improve access to our stores, historic sites and other businesses. This will both improve our ability to deliver those services by improving the customer experience while increasing our efficiency. We look forward to the implementation of this added customer service as we work to improve the quality of life for those who live, work and visit Philadelphia” Fenerty said.
